The automotive equivalent of storming the Bastille

Text Size

Every two years, the Paris Motor show becomes the automotive equivalent of storming the Bastille, as more than 10,000 semi-delirious and often seriously jet-lagged journalists from around the world bum rush the eight vehicle-choked halls at the Expo Porte de Versailles in advance of the public show, which runs from September 30 to October 15.

Photographing, interviewing, videotaping, and otherwise poking, prodding, and oogling hundreds of vehicles from dozens of manufacturers from around the world (watch out, even China's here now), the battle-tested scribes and shooters are there to bring the biggest auto show in the world to the huddled masses parked in front of computer screens back in the U.S.

Obviously France's home turf, the likes of Renault, Peugeot, and Citroen are the big boys on the block, with top-billing, big-time displays and some wild concepts on tap. But with machines like the super-sexy Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, the wicked Audi R8, the Volkswaken Iroc and the Dodge Avenger in the house, it's an international show in the truest sense of the word.

Be sure to stay tuned to MotorTrend.com for photos and more information from the show.
