It's been a long time since we've had any indication that the Europeans are interested in SUVs. With the C9, that drought has ended. Citroen co-developed the C9 with the help of Mitsubishi Motors, and the Picasso shares its platform with the upcoming Peugeot 7007. Nothing about the C9 is really that spectacular, but it does represent a significant change in direction for Europe: American-style SUVs go decidedly against the continental grain. Why is this relevant to the United States market, a market where French cars have never done well, and a market where European SUVs are notoriously confined to the upper ends of the financial spectrum? Well, the C9 may share its platform with the Pug 7007, but it also shares those underpinnings with the next Mitsubishi Outlander. So this is a sneak peek. More information to come during the Paris show.
