The new Mercedes DiesOtto is a gasoline engine that uses several technologies traditionally associated with diesels. The engine features direct gasoline injection, turbocharging and a variable compression. The end result is a car that gets the higher torque and fuel economy of diesel engines while running on gasoline.
The S-class will be the first car that the engine goes into, and it should get about 49 mpg. Expect to see the DiesOtto in more Mercedes cars soon.
