The brand-new 308 is Peugeot's entry into Europe's compact hatch segment, available in three- and five-door form. The RC-Z is a 2+2 coupe concept based on the 308.

Peugeot's main goal in creating the RC-Z was to eliminate weight (it tips the scales at 2640 lb) and the concept has many aluminum and carbon-fiber components as well as a polycarbonate rear window.

Weight wasn't the only factor requiring the use of a polycarbonate material for that window - its two-dome shape required it.

The front wheels are powered by the 1.6-liter, 175-hp turbocharged four-cylinder co-developed with BMW for the Mini Cooper S. It accelerates the RC-Z to 62 mph in 7.0 seconds and on to a top speed of 146 mph, and achieves 35 mpg on European combined-cycle fuel economy tests.

Behind the nineteen-inch wheels are enormous 14.1-inch vented brakes with four-piston calipers in front. That should be more than enough to stop short of the gawkers who stop dead in front of the RC-Z. It's a stunning design, and we hope it makes into production.
