The Pontiac Solstice has generated a lot of excitement here in America, and the Saturn Sky is set to join it on the streets this spring. But what about Europe? The mid-engine Opel Speedster is gone, and Pontiac and Saturn are non-existent on that continent. Then someone at GM Europe had a bright idea--if the Americans are rebadging an Opel to create the upcoming Saturn Aura sedan, why can't we rebadge the Sky roadster? Thus, the Opel GT was created, reviving the name one of the last Opels sold in the U.S. in the 1970s. That car that looked like a bad accident between a Corvette and a Datsun 260Z, but the Sky's styling will do nothing to tarnish the name. The GT will be fitted with the turbocharged Ecotec 2.0-liter from the Solstice GXP when it goes on sale in Europe this summer.
