The Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design of North America, Inc., contribution to the L.A. Auto Show 2005 California Car Design Studio competition is a hypothetical concept vehicle that not only represents the ultimate in Mercedes-Benz luxury, performance and styling, but also solves one major problem faced by residents living and working in Los Angeles: traffic.
How many times have you had to get from one part of the city to another for that important meeting only to be delayed by a frustrating traffic jam? Perhaps you too have muttered to yourself, "If I only had a helicopter, I could get out of this mess." Designed by a licensed pilot, the "Flgel Tuer" (gull-wing) is a flying four-seater that literally rises above it all on propeller-like fans mounted at each corner. The same GPS used by airliners extend down to street level to create the computer-controlled virtual highway needed to safely operate a flying car in an urban environment. Downward-articulating discs at the bottom of each fan unit would enable the Flgel Tuer to drive on regular roads and highways.
