The Mazdaspeed 6 is an all-wheel-drive version of the Mazda 6 with a turbocharged 270-hp 2.3-liter four, a six-speed manual transmission, and sport suspension. We see the price starting just under $30,000. The most obvious competitor, the Subaru Legacy GT, only has 250 horsepower, and similarly powerful (and expensive) rivals like the Mitsubishi Evo VII and the Subaru WRX STi are far smaller inside. There's no wagon version of this hot 6 planned yet, but if it sells well, we doubt Mazda would rule one out a few years down the road. Ironically, the Mazdaspeed 6 will almost certainly accelerate faster than Mazda's similarly priced sports car, the RX-8. While the RX-8 promises 4-seat versatility, the 6 actually delivers space for five. The RX-8 handles the way only low weight and rear-wheel drive can offer, but the Mazdaspeed 6 promises unprecedented bang for the buck.
