Debuting in the spring of 2004, the awesome Maserati MC12 makes its first appearance in the U.S. at the 2005 North American International Auto Show. First developed as a GT racing car for international competition, the roadgoing version uses a similar lightweight aluminum and carbon-fiber chassis. Putting the V-12's power to the ground is a six-speed electro-hydraulic transmission, with gears selected via paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. Mash the throttle from a standstill and the Ferrari Enzo-powered MC12 will take you to 60 mph in a heart-stopping 3.7 seconds. Bringing you down from the 205-mph top speed are gigantic brakes developed by Brembo. Styling pursues aerodynamic efficiency with a rear diffuser and a carbon-fiber wing. Features consist of a removable hardtop and leather-trimmed interior, making the car equally at home on the road as it is on the track. In addition to its racing efforts, Maserati expects to produce only 25 street versions of the MC12 in 2005.
