Smart is showing its product range in Detroit for the first time to give Americans a taste of the micro-Mercedes brand (Smarts have already gone on sale in Canada). The tiny Smart ForTwo is powered by three-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, making 74 and a heady 40 hp respectively, but enthusiasts are likely to get more excited by the roadster, which comes with 60- and 80-hp three-cylinder engines. The larger ForFour has four-cylinder power, with 74- and 94-hp outputs. It is unsure that any of these vehicles will go on sale here; the yet-to-be-seen ForMore crossover SUV model was initially slated to lead Smart's charge to the U.S., but development of that model has been suspended for the time being.
