The baby of Volkswagen chairman Ferdinand Pich, the Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 was built to attain a lofty and very specific goal: 400 kph--that's 249 mph. The Veyron blows past that goal and reaches 254 mph, but only when it's in a top speed-specific mode that minimizes drag by lowering ride height and moving various aero appendages closer to the body. The corollary of this is that there isn't much downforce in this mode, so cornering is discouraged. Regardless of the selected drive program, the Veyron accelerates like a stuck pig on diet pills, thanks to its 8.0-liter, sixteen-cylinder, quad-turbo engine that produces 987 horsepower and 922 lb-ft of torque. Zero to 60 mph blurs by in well under three seconds.

With all these record-setting specifications and capabilities, the Veyron might come off as a hard-core sports car, but it's really the world's most sophisticated grand touring machine. From hand-turned metal on the dash to the requisite wood and leather overload, it's built to a sybarite's specification. All this can be yours for a mere $1.2 million.
