The GMC Yukon XL and the upscale Yukon XL Denali will go on sale late this summer, at around the same time as the Chevrolet Suburban and the Cadillac Escalade ESV. Unlike the Caddy, the GMC models don't have any unique panels to differentiate themselves from the Suburban, but they do have an enormous GMC grille in case you had any doubt as to which brand is which. The Yukon is similar to the Suburban in trim and appearance and goes on sale in SLE (cloth trim) and SLT (leather) versions, both equipped with a 320-hp, 5.3-liter OHV V-8 engine. The Denali has standard luxury features, such as a power liftgate and tri-zone automatic climate control, along with a raft of available accouterments, such as heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel. The Denali also gets a more powerful 6.2-liter V-8 engine rated at 380 hp and 415 pound-feet of torque, which is mated to GM's new six-speed automatic transmission. Both vehicles ride on a heavily revised fully boxed chassis which retains a live rear axle, but gets a new coil-over-damper front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering.
