Although the Lexus brand is a great success in the States and has been launched in Europe, Lexus cars still are not sold in Toyota's Japan home market. That will change in August 2005, when Japanese consumers will be able to purchase Lexus models for the first time. The LF-S portends the next-generation GS sedan.

The sleek, five-seat LF-S (Lexus Future Sedan), which has a V-8 gasoline engine and a high-output motor hybrid system with four-wheel drive, is a welcome departure from Lexus's current overly conservative styling ethos. Let's hope the styling makes it largely intact when it becomes the second-generation GS sedan.
