Hyundai unveiled its second-generation fuel-cell vehicle, the Tucson FCEV, saying it "brings us one step closer to commercialization of fuel cell vehicles" and predicting it will enter fleet service in just three months. The Tucson FCEV promises double the driving range of its predecessor, the Santa Fe FCEV, offering more than 180 miles from its 40-gallon hydrogen storage tanks. Both its maximum speed of 93 mph and 80kW of power are increased for better overall performance from the first-generation model. Additionally, the Tucson FCEV is one of the first fuel-cell vehicles capable of starting in freezing temperatures. Finally, the Tucson FCEV's powerplant has been relocated under the front hood, unlike Hyundai's first model, which featured an under-floor installation.
