2005 Mercedes-Benz SLK-class SLK350 rear.JPG
Mercedes' makeover for its feminine roadster replaces many of the first model's numerous flaws. Recirculating-ball steering – think Ford Crown Victoria – got the ax. Whiny 4-cylinder and just-adequate V6s have been replaced by a stout 3.5-liter V6 on the SLK350. An SLK55 model promises to destroy any Z4, Boxster, or TT. Its transmissions (yes, there is a manual this time) have six or seven gears. No longer will its sporty appearance have such a loose connection to its engineering.
