2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca rear
If you can get past its looks, you should find another capable crossover SUV in the B9 Tribeca. Like the Highlander, Pilot, Murano, and Endeavor, the Tribeca's roots belong to its parent company's family sedan, the Legacy. That car has donated its platform, independent suspension, and horizontally-opposed 6-cylinder engine (H6) for the Tribeca, which makes a similar 250 horsepower though slightly less torque, since the engine is only 3 liters large (making for better gas mileage). The main differences over its rivals are the Tribeca offers an optional third-row seat (unlike the Murano or Endeavor), has all-wheel-drive standard (like all Subarus), and as a result, starts above $31K instead of the high $20s.
