The first crossover SUV for the middle-class, the low-slung Highlander gets a second session in the spotlight this year for receiving the same hybrid treatment given to the Lexus RX400h, in which three electric motors combine with its existing 3.3-liter V6 to produce 268 horsepower while saving gas. $33,595 buys the Highlander Hybrid. The normal Highlanders continue with regular V6 and 4-cylinder engines and the option of 7-passenger seating on certain models. All-wheel-drive is optional on all.
