2008 Bentley Azure Review

A refined, luxury convertible with some flaws that won’t stop the typical Bentley buyer.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2008 Bentley Azure convertible looks similar to the old style Bentleys. The Azure contains a 6.75-liter, twin turbocharged V-8 and burns a lot of fuel. A very luxurious car, the Azure includes plenty of luxury features. The interior comfortably seats four and the convertible top helps them all stay cool while showing off their Bentley. With an old-style engine that can be traced back to the late 1950s, the Azure has a lot of power to push its more modern six-speed transmission. Like other Bentleys, the Azure offers a variety of choices for high-quality wooden trim. Its seats come upholstered in fine leather and feel very durable as well as comfortable. The Azure only offers one trim level. The acceleration seems very good for an automobile that weighs approximately three tons. For the price, the Azure’s short list of safety features might surprise you.

The Range

Body Styles: convertible
Engines: 6.75-liter V-8
Transmissions: six-speed automatic
Models: Bentley Azure Base

What's New

The only new features for the 2008 Azure include two new wheel designs, both measuring 20 inches.

The Bentley Azure’s alloy wheels come in different color options. The windshield wipers sense speed, so the driver has no need to adjust them. The convertible’s drop-top gives the car a more attractive look and everyone in the Azure a sense of freedom.

The Azure’s exterior may not have a lot of extra features, but its interior shows what the buyer gets for the money. The driver and front passenger seat are heated and have a massage function. Both front seats also come with power-adjustable lumbar support to maximize comfort while enjoying the rest of the other luxury features. Both front seats are height-adjustable premium-leather bucket seats. The doors have remote power locks. The heated mirrors are power adjustable. The power-steering is speed proportional to make turning at speeds easy and smooth. A 12-volt outlet assists anyone who needs to be on his computer or just wants to play games. The interior air is filtered. The climate control has three zones and can be programmed with memorized settings. The tilt steering wheel also provides memorized settings for three separate drivers. The DVD-based navigation system takes voice direction. A cellular phone and Bluetooth wireless offer easy communication.

Performance & Handling

Although the 6.75-liter V-8 puts out 450 horsepower, the Azure doesn’t respond like other vehicles with that much power because it weighs 6000 pounds. The Azure can still make it from zero to 60 mph in less than six seconds, which seems impressive considering its weight. The ride feels very smooth and comfortable and is often described as stately. When it comes to dynamic handling, the Bentley Azure has been compared to the Chevrolet Suburban, but the smooth, luxurious ride makes up for the lack of sportiness.

The Bentley Azure includes less safety features than some its closest competitors. It does offer a four-wheel anti-lock braking system with front and rear ventilated disc brakes. Also included are front and rear dual side-mounted airbags, dusk-sensing HID headlamps, stability control, traction control, electronic brake force distribution, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
