2007 Bentley Continental Flying Spur Review

An extremely luxurious sedan with impressive features and tons of power.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

The 2007 Bentley Continental Flying Spur offers impressive speed and power with a W-12 engine and a smooth six-speed automatic transmission. It also has one of the nicest interior designs that drivers will find, although the backseat could use some improvement, features-wise. Overall, this is an admirable alternative to cars made by Rolls-Royce and Maybach.

The Range

Body Styles: sedan
Engines: 6.0-liter W-12
Transmissions: six-speed automatic
Models: Bentley Continental Flying Spur

What's New

The 2007 Continental Flying Spur doesn't get any changes this year; however, it now includes a few technology upgrades, such as Bluetooth connectivity, a DVD-based navigation system, and even an optional telephone for the rear seat. The Flying Spur also comes with a lengthy list of extras. The Mulliner Driving Specification package, for instance, adds 20-inch wheels and even nicer leather upholstery. The interior and exterior now boasts a wider range of color options.

Exterior

The 2007 Bentley Continental Flying Spur's cabin is truly a remarkable work of craftsmanship. The wood trim and leather upholstery offers a warm, comfortable interior. Plus, consumers get to choose between 17 leather colors, a huge range of interior paint colors, and seven veneers. It also has a ton of luxury features. A four-zone automatic climate control system keeps everyone comfortable with the help of cooling and heating seats. DVD navigation and 16-power front seats also come standard. Some of the best options, however, come with pre-arranged packages. The newly-created Mulliner Driving Specification package, for instance, gives alloy foot pedals, diamond-quilted leather, and either Piano Black or Burr Walnut veneer.

The 2007 Bentley Continental Flying Spur's interior does have one limitation: the updated technology does not come with an improved panel configuration. Many of the buttons and knobs look the same, which makes it difficult to control the navigation system, stereo, and other features while keeping an eye on the road. The steering wheel paddle shifters are also notoriously difficult to use. It's poorly placed and clumsy when drivers manage to get their hands on them.

Performance & Handling

The 2007 Bentley Continental Flying Spur has a six-liter, W-12 engine that pumps out a spectacular 552 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Even with the car's whopping weight (5456 pounds), the W-12 engine can take it to 60 mph from a standstill in just 4.8 seconds. It also gets props for its excellent handling. Its adjustable air suspension also helps keep the ride nice and smooth. With this kind of handling, drivers can easily zip between lanes even on crowded streets.

Safety

The 2007 Bentley Continental Flying Spur has just about every safety feature that consumers could want. Front and rear passengers are protected by side and head curtain airbags. Standard features include ABS, stability control, and traction control. Plus, the 2007 Flying Spur sense passengers in the rear seat so it can automatically raise headrests to help prevent whiplash.
