The Bentley Continental GT replaced the Continental R in 2003 with a far more contemporary package than its predecessor. The current generation Continental is aptly named the GT, as it is a true Grand Touring coupe, with 2+2 seating and significant performance attributes.
We tested the Continental GT Speed. The only outward indications of its higher level of performance over the base model are the tinted front grille and larger tailpipes. The increase in power over the base GT, along with a 77-pound reduction in weight yields an impressive zero to 60 time of just 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 202 miles per hour, enough to out run any paparazzi. The GT Speed is the first production Bentley capable of attaining this speed!
The Continental GT is powered by a Volkswagen-sourced 6-liter W-12 engine, which is essentially two V6's attached side-by-side. Output for the base GT is listed at 552 horsepower and 479 pound feet of torque, while the GT Speed's W-12 is tuned to crank out 600 horsepower and 553 pound feet of torque. With both models, power is sent to standard all wheel drive through a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.
Fuel economy for the Continental GT and GT Speed are as follows:
While the GT Speed's calling card may be performance, Bentley's forte« undoubtedly is luxury. This notion becomes quickly apparent when climbing into the opulent cockpit of the Continental GT. Of the 17 interior color schemes available on the GT Speed, the red leather seen here is a standout. The 2+2 seating layout features rear bucket seats with rear-seat climate controls.
Standard safety equipment on the Continental GT includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic brake force distribution, Traction Control System, and a full assortment of front and side impact airbags.
Base MSRP for the 2010 Bentley Continental GT is $182,800. A GT Speed model will start at $207,700, while a convertible GTC Speed will start at $231,400. The Continental GT is backed by 3-year, unlimited-miles powertrain warranty.
The 2010 Bentley Continental GT is a superlative blend of luxury and engineering, while the GT Speed delivers the performance numbers to back up its name!
