Overview

The 1999 BMW 3-Series are the smallest line of cars manufactured by BMW and include the coupe, hatchback, and convertible. In 1999, all models of the BMW 3-Series receive upgrades. The sedans receive a complete redesign. Optional sport packages are available for the convertible and coupe models. A premium package is also available and includes an on-board computer and new wood trim.

What's New

The 1999 BMW 3-Series 318Ti sport hatchback receives 16-inch alloy wheels, leather and cloth sports seats, sports suspension, a leather-covered M steering wheel, fog lights, and side airbags. The coupe and convertible also have optional sport packages that include the M sport three-spoke steering wheel. Side skirts, a wide body side molding with M badges, and rear air diffuser are also options. A premium package with on-board computer and Yew wood trim becomes available.

Exterior

All models of the 1999 BMW 3-Series have the same standard exterior features like tinted glass, 15-inch wheels, intermittent windshield wipers, and alloy wheels. Optional features vary depending on the model but can include fog lights, metallic paint, navigation feature, and compact disc changer. Exterior specifications of each model vary. Width is anywhere from 67.3 inches to 68.5 inches, length 174 inches to 176 inches, height of 53 inches to 55.7 inches, and curb weight from 3153 pounds to 3296 pounds.

Interior

All models of the BMW 3-Series have basic interior features like center console, cruise control, power steering, power windows and door locks, and tachometer. Optional interior features vary depending on the model but can include heated front seats, an advanced audio system, and trip computer.

Performance & Handling

Performance of the 1999 BMW 3-Series varies depending on the model, but generally, the speed corresponds to the engine. The 323i models produce a minimum 170 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 181 lb-ft of torque at 3500 rpm. The 328i models have a minimum 193 hp at 5500 rpm and 206 lb-ft of torque at 3500 rpm.

Safety

All models of the 1999 BMW 3-Series have stability and traction control, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, and driver and passenger front airbags. Depending on the model, fog lights and anti-theft alarm systems are optional safety features.
