The first impression we got when it came time to test the new 3-series coupe from BMW is that this Bimmer no longer has the feel of an entry-level offering. While still the "little brother" to some of the best cars made, the 328 xi seems much more substantial, well trimmed and refined than previous in years.
There's no mistaking the classic "split-kidney" design of the front grille and other BMW design cues link the 328 with its up-market stable mates such as the high belt line, diminutive rear deck and prominent wheel openings that show-case the standard 17-inch or optional 18-inch light-alloy wheels shod with low-profile run-flat performance tires. Xenon Adaptive Headlights with power wash function punctuate the front end treatment as dose the front air dam with integral fog lights.
Residing under the hood is a 3-liter, 230-horsepower, DOHC in-line six that delivers an EPA estimated fuel efficiency of 19 City/28 Highway. While our test car came with the 6-speed manual, a 6-speed sequential automatic is also available to channel the 200 pounds feet of torque to the "xi" all-wheel-drive system.
Braking is provided by 4-wheel, ventilated, ABS equipped discs with Dynamic Brake, Stability and Traction Control technology.
Our test 328 came with the optional Premium Package that includes the upgraded all leather upholstery with wood trim that makes the 5-passenger xi as luxurious as it is functional with seating for five, and a rear seat folding arm rest with pass through to the substantial trunk.
The power sun-roof is standard as is the AM/FM radio with CD and MP3 player. An on-board computer is provided and pre-wiring is included for the optional Blue Tooth phone system. Air bags protect passengers with front and seat-mounted side-impact and front and rear head-protection system.
Considering a 4-year/50,000 mile warranty is included in the base MSRP of $37,100, it might be well worth your time to check out the 2007 328xi Coupe from BMW.
