The BMW 7-Series is the flagship series in the BMW line. It’s what people think of when they think of BMW. The 2013 BMW 7-Series upholds its reputation admirably, providing a sumptuous interior and plenty of performance touches that make this car a pleasure to drive. And while some luxury cars focus on the driver and front passenger, the luxury and comfort of the BMW 7-Series extends to every seat in vehicle, which is great for families and carpoolers. Whether it’s the base 740i, the 740Li, 750i, 750Li, or 760 Li, the BMW 7-Series provides a comfortable, luxurious, strong ride.
New For 2013
The updates for the 2013 BMW 7-Series are largely about performance. Depending on which model you choose, some of the new features you’ll find may include:
- Upgraded engine
- More efficient powertrain
- Voice control navigation standard
- Overall more upscale appearance
The cars in the 2013 BMW 7-Series are fairly faithful to the BMW tradition, with a wide chrome kidney grill introducing a long, sleek hood designed to make the car look lower to the ground. Three lower air inlets give the car a wider, sportier appearance. The entire shape of the car is meant to take advantage of aerodynamics, giving the BMW 7-Series an overall streamlined look in addition to some performance benefits. The back of the car features a tiered rear with the classic L-shaped tail lights. Tasteful chrome accents are everywhere. The 7-Series features optional adaptive xenon LED headlights and air curtains to channel air around the front wheels, reducing drag.
Interior & Cargo
The interior of the 2013 BMW 7-Series has been redesigned with the driver in mind, making sure necessary controls and gauges are laid out in a manner most convenient and logical for whoever is behind the wheel. The interior features 14-way power premium leather front seats with adjustable lumbar support. Alloy, leather, and wood trim throughout the cabin highlight the overall luxurious nature of this car. One fun and very luxurious highlight of the 7-Series is an optional center audio speaker that rises up for enhanced sound while you listen to radio, CD, or DVD and sinks back into the center console when not in use. You’ll also experience the convenience and luxury of a digital display navigation system with voice activation and Bluetooth wireless data link. The rear seats will have children easily entertained or allow adult passengers to catch up on news or sports with free standing 9.2? monitors with separate controls with the rear seat entertainment package. There’s plenty of room for luggage and other cargo as well, with 14.0 cu. ft. of cargo space.
When it comes to safety, the 2013 BMW 7-Series follows the philosophy that better control equals a safer car. The car uses Enhanced Active Cruise Control in case sudden braking is needed and the driver cannot react in time. The Active Protection system actually monitors the driver’s behavior and lets the driver know if it may be time to pull over for a little rest before fatigue leads to a dangerous driving situation. BMW Parking Assistant makes parking a large, expensive vehicle practically stress-free. Stability and traction control keep you on course, even at high speeds and in dangerous driving conditions. Of course, you’ll also find all the standard features you’d expect from a quality automobile, such as four-wheel ABS, front and rear-ventilated disc brakes, plenty of airbags, an alarm system, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, electronic brake force distribution, child seat anchors and safety locks, and a lot more.
One of the really interesting aspects of the BMW 7-Series is the opportunity to switch to different modes of driving depending upon your mood or your priorities, just by selecting your preference from a menu on the dashboard. By choosing between Sport, Comfort, Comfort+ or Eco Pro, you can decide whether you want an energy conscious ride, a fun, exhilarating ride, or a relaxed, comfortable one. No matter the mode, you won’t have to worry about sacrificing power or performance. The car features a 3.0-liter, turbocharged, six-cylinder engine and eight-speed shiftable automatic transmission in the 740i and 740Li, a 4.4-liter, twin turbocharged V8 in the 750i and 750Li, and a massive, 6.0-liter, twin turbocharged V12 in the 760Li, which delivers 535 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. All except the 740i and 760Li are available as all-wheel-drive xDrive models for added control.
