The 1996 BMW 8 Series classifies as a two-door coupe made in the classic grand tourer tradition. It comes in three models. These autos offer a smooth ride down the road and have powerful engines that beg drivers to floor the gas pedal.

All three models include a number of superb standard features. These high-end cars offer all of the power features a consumer would expect. If a driver can afford the steep price tag, it certainly turns heads anywhere it goes.

What's New

The 1996 BMW 840Ci and BMW 850Ci feature a speed-sensitive variable assist steering system. The BMW 840Ci includes upgrades in the form of a Steptronic automatic transmission and a bird's eye maple interior trim. The V-8 engine on the BMW 840Ci has larger displacement resulting in more torque at lower rpm. Both the BMW 840Ci and the BMW 850Ci have a completely redesigned stereo system and automatic locking retractor seat belts.


All three models of the 1996 BMW 8 Series feature 16-inch wheels. Alloy wheels provide an option on the 840Ci and the 850Ci and come standard on the 850CSi. All three models of this two-door grand tourer coupe look sleek and aerodynamic. They have a look of prestige with beautiful lines and classic styling. Tinted glass and front-and rear-impact-absorbing bumpers come standard on all models. Buyers can choose from a gloss multi-coat or a metallic multi-coat paint job. The BMW 850 CSi has a sporty yet classy-looking rear spoiler. A keyless entry system, an anti-theft alarm system, and lighted entry system come standard. A power sunroof adds to the driving pleasure of all three models.


Beautiful maple interior trim comes standard on all three models of the BMW 8 Series. The driver’s seat offers heat and lumbar support. Easy-to-read, lighted dash displays include a tachometer, a trip computer, and warning lights. A power tilt and telescopic steering wheel comes standard equipment on all models of the 1996 BMW 8 Series. A two-zone climate control system allows the driver and passengers to adjust their own heat and air settings. An AM/FM/cassette stereo system with 12 speakers comes standard and a CD player with a changer remains optional. Velour carpeting and a rear ski bag come standard in all three models.

Performance & Handling

The 840Ci features a 4.4-liter V-8 engine and a five-speed automatic transmission. The 850Ci employs a powerful 5.4-liter V-12 engine with a five-speed automatic transmission. The 850CSi contains a 5.6-liter V-12 engine with a six-speed manual transmission.

Driving the 1996 BMW 8 Series is every luxury car lover's dream. A strut front suspension with a stabilizer bar and a multi-link rear suspension provide a smooth and quiet ride. All three models contain powerful engines that can reach speeds high enough to get the driver a night in jail with over 350 horsepower. Electronic traction control makes driving in the worst of road conditions safe. For a larger coupe it has a tight turning radius of 37 feet. The BMW 850 CSi includes a sport suspension system.
