2006 BMW M6 Review

Capable of outracing many of the better sports cars.

Overview

BMW M versions have always been synonymous with high-performance. After all, the M stands for Motorsport. It indicates that BMW has created an increased performance coupe with a sport-tuned suspension and a high-output engine. The 2006 BMW M6 model complies with all of the above attributes perfectly. Gaining a few subtle body tweaks, along with special sport seats and wheels, simply adds to the M6’s appeal. The 2006 BMW M6 has the spirit and high-performance abilities of the previous models but proves even more capable and powerful. The M6 shares the underpinnings with its super-sport sedan M5 sibling, making the BMW M6 one of the best sedans on the market.

Handling that much sportiness and high-performance might not suit every driver, though the serious enthusiasts love this M6 sedan for everything it encompasses. The acceleration, engine wail, poised handling, and electronically adjustable suspension comprise just a few of the aspects that place the 2006 BMW M6 at the top of the lineup. All of the above benefits, coupled with the trademark BMW ultra-communicative steering make this four-seat coupe one of the favorites in the ultra-performance automobile segment.

What's New

Making a grand entrance for 2006, the BMW M6 provides an excellent 6 Series version. The most important modification concerns the V-10, which boasts 500-horsepower that can blow away most of the competition in the sport coupe segment. It has aspirations to become the top super-sport, high-performance automobile on the market.

Exterior

Within the high-performance midsize automobile category, the 2006 BMW M6 coupe has the tasteful eye-catching equipment that is M-specific; the double-spoke, 19-inch wheels come standard for the sporty exterior appearance. The carbon-fiber roof with body kit comes with a very aggressive front air dam, rear diffuser, and side sill extensions. Other exterior features include a rear spoiler and a chrome grille. The various body paint colors further spruce up this super-sporty car.

Interior

The 2006 BMW M6 interior features an uncluttered console and dash that holds the climate controls and comes trimmed in wood for an elegant feel. The single option base model includes many great features such as a navigation system; sport seats with adjustability of 16 levels; a sport steering wheel; premium leather upholstery; a Logic 7 audio system with 13 speakers, two subwoofers, and a CD changer; Bluetooth wireless capability; power windows; keyless entry; wood trim; dual-zone automatic climate control; and seat heaters.

The cabin holds four passengers adequately and the seats seem nicely shaped. The multi-adjustable sport seats make comfort easy to achieve for every individual.

Performance & Handling

The 2006 BMW M6 contains a powerhouse five-liter V-10 that reaches a peak output of 500 horses and 383 lb-ft of torque. BMW incorporates the latest technology under the hood with the variable valve timing and separate throttle butterflies for each cylinder. The only transmission option remains the automatic seven-speed SMG, or Sequential Manual Gearbox, which allows the basically manual transmission to shift automatically. The manual paddles sit behind the wheel for manual shifting and work wonderfully when popping the throttle in stoplight races. The estimated time for acceleration to 60 mph from a standstill remains only 4.5 seconds even though the electronic limit reaches 155 mph.

Driving this M6 is fun and exciting with all the fast revving, electrohydraulic shifts, and throttle hammering. The performance potential meets top-of-the-line expectations and also proves quite enjoyable during every day driving.

Safety

2006 BMW M6 standard safety features include traction and stability control, anti-lock brakes, door-mounted side airbags for front, curtain airbags, and adaptive xenon headlamps.
