1995 Buick Century Review

American-built with a dash of luxury.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

The 1995 Buick Century offers a vehicle that's a solid, well-equipped sedan and is just shy of near-luxury territory. The trim levels and options list gives buyers a great deal of control over what they want out of it. Regardless of the options taken, it always offers a solidly performing vehicle, so drivers have little need to worry about selecting the wrong options.

The 1995 Buick Century can potentially handle the needs of a wide variety of drivers, and the options allow select models to noticeably differ from one another. Some drivers might give up comfort in exchange for a lower cost, while others are willing to pay more to get the best-equipped model. It performs quite well across all the levels, and the value only noticeably weakens at the extreme ends of the spectrum. For the most part, drivers can personalize it any way they want and expect it to be a solid purchase.

The Range

Body Styles: sedan, wagon
Engines: 2.2-liter four-cylinder, 3.1-liter six-cylinder
Transmissions: five-speed manual, four-speed automatic
Models: Buick Century Special, Buick Century Custom, Buick Century Limited

What's New

The 1995 Buick Century comes with some minor readjustments to the interior: instruments on the panel have new backlighting and seats are revised.

Exterior

The 1995 Buick Century is an average length vehicle that measures 189.1 inches long. It's available as a sedan or wagon, which is only available on the Special model. It is a conservatively-styled vehicle with crisp angles and a slightly blocky overall frame.

Interior

The 1995 Buick Century offers a wide range of interior options. It comes with air-conditioning, power locks, and AM/FM radio as standard features, making it the least equipped model in the range. The Limited model adds a rear window defroster, keyless entry, power mirrors, power windows, cruise control, power seats, leather seating, and a cassette player. Most of the Limited’s features are available on the Special and Custom as optional choices.

Performance & Handling

The 1995 Buick Century has good overall handling and performance. The 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine is found on the Special model. Both the Custom and Limited come standard with a 3.1-liter six-cylinder engine that provides good acceleration and a solid top speed. Five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions are both available. The handling and maneuverability are also good, although not extraordinary. Furthermore, the Century is an easy-to-drive vehicle that handles itself well on roads, which is what most drivers want and need.

Safety

The 1995 Buick Century offers dual-front airbags and four-wheel anti-lock brakes as standard features on all models, which are features not commonly found on similar 1995 models.
