2011 Buick LaCrosse Review

Aiming to be Buick flagship

Reviewed by Automotive on

In a Nutshell
The 2011 Buick LaCrosse is a stylish luxury sedan that features exceptional ride, handling, and braking for this type of car. Powered by either a 2.4-liter I-4 or 3.6-liter V-6 engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, the Buick LaCrosse can be fitted with all-wheel-drive or front-wheel-drive.

Attractive and well-appointed, the Buick LaCrosse features a top-notch array of safety features, such StabiliTrak, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, and electronic brake force distribution with brake assist. The LaCrosse has a very good fuel economy rating of 19 mpg city / 30 mpg highway for a car in its class.

New for 2011

The Buick LaCrosse received very minor changes for 2011, including that a variable-effort electric power steering has been added to four-cylinder trims and the Ecotec 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine became standard on CX and CXL front-wheel drive trims.

Essentials

Engines: 2.4L I-4, 3.6L V-6
Transmission: Six-speed automatic
Body Style: Sedan
Trims: CX Sedan, CXL Sedan, CXS Sedan

On the Outside

Reminiscent of early 1950s Buicks, the LaCrosse has a "sweepspear" profile, the vertical-bar grille, and ventiports on the hood. Four ventiports signify the four-cylinder engine, while six ventiports indicates the V-6 engine.

From the Inside

Featuring rich, subtle ambient lighting, the 2011 Buick LaCrosse exudes luxury. While the base CX comes with cloth seats and XM radio, the CXL has heated leather seats and dual-zone climate control. The CXS features top-quality perforated, heated, and ventilated leather seats..

Driving Performance

Designed to reduce torque steer, improve sensitivity to tire irregularities, and wheel imbalance and improve camber control and impact isolation, the Buick LaCrosse CXS features GM's HiPer Strut front suspension. While the 2.4-liter direct-injection four-cylinder engine is an adequate replacement for the 3.0-liter V-6 engine, a 3.6-liter V-6 engine comes standard on the CXL AWD and CXS.

Safety Equipment

Standard on the Buick LaCrosse are StabiliTrak; front-, side- and roof-mounted head curtain airbags; four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes; and electronic brake force distribution with brake assist. Heads-up display, adaptive lighting, Side Blind Zone Alert, and rearview camera are available options.

Gas Mileage

CX, CXL I-4 FWD: 19 city mpg/30 highway mpg
CXS 3.6L FWD: 17 city mpg/27 highway mpg
CXL 3.6L AWD: 17 city mpg/27 highway mpg
