2013 Buick Regal Review

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2013 Buick Regal is a midsize sedan that offers both sportiness and fuel efficiency. Designed as a sport sedan, with top notch handling and a choice between two powerful engines, the Buick Regal also offers eAssist technology, a mild hybrid power system that dramatically saves on gas and results in lower emissions. If you’re looking to maximize the sport potential of this car, you’ll definitely want to go with the GS, but with all models, you should appreciate the handling, attractive interior and exterior look, and solid fuel economy.

New For 2013

The Buick Regal was reintroduced in 2011 after being on hiatus for years, and the new Regal is, in many ways, an entirely different car. It’s still a quality midsize sedan, but with today’s Regal, the emphasis is on offering an eco-friendly vehicle. For this reason, the main thing you’ll notice is that the standard Regal features a mild hybrid power system. Here are some of the big changes you’ll notice on the new Regal:

  • eAssist mild hybrid system
  • Choice of automatic or manual transmission standard on the GS
  • IntelliLink touch-screen display with voice control

The 2013 Buick Regal features a sculpted, aerodynamic look with the classic Buick waterfall grille. A rear lip spoiler contributes to the overall subtle, yet sporty appearance of the Regal. The base model features 17-inch alloy wheels, with the option for a power sunroof and molded splash guards. The Turbo features 18-inch painted alloy wheels, upgradable to chrome plated wheels or 19 inches. On the GS, 19-inch alloy wheels are standard, upgradable to 20-inch five-twin spoke polished alloy wheels. Available colors include White Diamond Tricoat, Graphite Blue Metallic, and Quicksilver Metallic.

Interior & Cargo

With a name like Regal, you can expect a luxurious interior, and you definitely get it with the 2013 Buick Regal. This ergonomically designed, ebony interior with leather appointed seating features heated front seats, including a 12-way power driver’s seat, along with power lumbar support, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and dual zone climate controls. You’ll also enjoy the IntelliLink system, an entertainment and communication management computer. The IntelliLink home page is presented on a 7-inch high-resolution screen allowing you to access phone communication, various music options and Bluetooth audio with the touch of a button or through voice command. Combined with OnStar Turn By Turn Navigation, you’ve got everything you need to find your way to your destination while you enjoy the ride.

Cargo capacity varies depending on trim level. In the base model, you’ll find 11.1 cubic feet of trunk space, while the Turbo provides 14.2 cubic feet, which is also what you’ll find in the GS.

With OnStar, your Regal is never far from emergency assistance or critical systems information. You can even use OnStar to unlock or start your car. However, this is just one aspect of the confidence you can have in the safety of the 2013 Buick Regal, an IIHS Top Safety Pick. You’ll also find six standard airbags, including front air bags with two-stage inflation, and available rear outboard seat mounted thorax air bags. The Buick Regal comes equipped with a four-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with emergency brake assist, front seatbelt pretensioners, electronic brake force distribution, and ventilated front disc brakes. You’ll find an alarm system and engine immobilizer for theft prevention and child safety locks and seat anchors for young passengers. The 2013 Buick Regal is definitely a good choice for families for whom safety is a major concern when buying a car.

Driving Experience

One of the highlights of the 2013 Buick Regal is the e-Assist Mild Hybrid power system, which connects to a 2.4-liter, direct injection, four-cylinder engine and six-speed shiftable automatic transmission to provide 25/36 mpg city/highway with 182 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. You’ll also find the tightly tuned suspension provides superior handling, especially on the GS. This, combined with the Stabilitrak stability and traction control system, gives you terrific control on the road, even at higher speeds.

The GS model houses a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that gives you great power along with that control, offering 270 horses and 295 lb-ft of torque and a respectable 19/27 mpg city/highway. Under the hood of the Turbo, you’ll find a Flex Fuel 2.0-liter four-cylinder that provides 220 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, with a fuel economy of 18/29 mpg city/highway.

You can select your own driving experience in the 2013 Buick Regal with the Regal’s Interactive Drive Control system. The Standard mode takes it easy on the vehicle for your daily commute, while the Tour mode sets you up for those long weekend trips, and the Sport mode is available for when you really want to open things up.
