Great engine choices and amazing reflexes.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

If you like speed and style, the 2005 Cadillac CTS deserves a look. This car offers Cadillac style with some new and interesting tweaks. The staid, boring look of the classic Caddy disappears with this model. In its place sits a newly designed and exciting look. Available with a choice of two engines, this sedan makes a good choice for anyone looking for plenty of power, cabin room, and driving performance.

The Range

Body Styles: sedan
Engines: 2.8-liter V-6, 3.6-liter V-6
Transmissions: six-speed manual
Models: Cadillac CTS

What's New

The company makes some changes to the Cadillac CTS for 2005. The original 3.2-liter, V-6 base engine gets replaced by the smaller 2.8-liter. Regardless of the engine choice, the 2005 Cadillac CTS only couples with the six-speed manual transmission. Faux leather offers a mid-year interior trim option. Finally, many feature packages get shuffled around.

Interior

The 2005 Cadillac CTS's best advantage remains its interior cabin space. It offers plenty of leg and headroom, which gives good news for taller drivers and passengers. Even the back seat offers quite a bit in the way of space. The front seat features bucket seats for the driver and front passenger in vinyl or leather upholstery, depending on the trim level and engine choice. The cabin comes equipped with center console storage, air-conditioning, and cruise control. Heated and power mirrors, remote power door locks, and a cargo net spruce up the cabin as well. In addition to the leather steering wheel, a leather shift knob and leather trim on the console center come optionally on the 3.6-liter, V-6 model. The audio system and cruise controls conveniently sit on the steering wheel column.

Performance & Handling

For such a large car, the 2005 Cadillac CTS offers a great deal in terms of performance and handling. The V-6 engine choices provide plenty of power for acceleration, merging, and passing on the highway, as well as for day to day city driving. Thanks to its stiff body structure and suspension, this sedan gives a unique twist for Cadillac drivers. The CTS also features sport handling dynamics.

Safety

Like most models from Cadillac, the 2005 CTS comes fully equipped with a long list of safety features. These cars include front and rear head airbags, dual front side-mounted airbags, and four-wheel anti-lock front and rear ventilated disc brakes. Traction control remains an added feature on both 2005 Cadillac CTS models. Child seat anchors and rear door child safety locks come standard.

EPA Fuel Economy

Cadillac CTS 2.8-liter V-6: 16/25 mpg city/highway
