2013 Cadillac Escalade Review

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2013 Cadillac Escalade SUV is indeed the Cadillac of SUVs. If you’re looking for the ultimate luxury SUV, it’s hard not to consider the Cadillac Escalade. This vehicle is a leader in performance, looks, and luxury, with a breathtaking interior, a commanding body, and a mighty Vortec V-8 engine under the hood. Depending on what you need a sport utility vehicle for, the 2013 Cadillac Escalade may be more vehicle than you need, and it’s got a price to match, but if you want everything an SUV can offer, you probably want an Escalade.

New For 2013

While the 2013 Cadillac Escalade carries over some minor design changes and enhancements to the navigation system from 2012, you’re still getting all the things that make the Escalade the premier luxury SUV on the market, including:

  • V-8 engine
  • Triple-zone climate controls
  • Hybrid option

Exterior

The exterior of the 2013 Cadillac Escalade is simply beautiful, with a classic Cadillac grille framing the front of the car and a variety of dynamic colors, including White Diamond Tri-Coat, Xenon Blue Metallic, and Black Raven. The LED headlights and taillights are designed in such a way that when activated, it looks like the car is accessorized with glittering diamonds, which fits perfectly with this car’s image.

Interior & Cargo

The interior of the 2013 Cadillac Escalade features Bluetooth controls in the steering wheel, a USB port in the center console, and a standard BOSE 5.1 Surround system with ten speakers. Backseat passengers can enjoy rear seat entertainment with one or two high definition monitors. The 2013 Cadillac Escalade also features SirusXM radio and OnStar navigation aid and emergency assistance. OnStar also allows remote locking and unlocking of doors and starting of the vehicle, as well as real time tire pressure, oil life, and other key information. You’ll manage most of this with the centrally located Control Center, which offers turn by turn navigation, Franchise Favorites to tell you when your favorite businesses are in the area, and even lets you know when your favorite songs are on the radio.

If you choose the Platinum trim, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into the cabin of Air Force One or a celebrity’s limousine when you see the interior of this car, which features leather seating with French stitching. The Adaptive Remote Start option lets you start the car and start managing the temperature before you even enter the vehicle, which you’ll appreciate when you leave your home in the morning to be greeted by subzero temperatures, or when you’ve left the car out in the hot sun for a few hours. The tri-zone climate controls mean that just about everyone in the car can manage their own perfect comfort level.

With all the seats in place, the Escalade offers 16.9 cubic feet of cargo space, but you can expand that to a whopping 108.9 cubic feet if you maximize available cargo space by removing the rear seats. This Escalade has a towing capacity of 8300 lbs. with a maximum payload of 1555 lbs.

Safety

The Side Blind Zone Alert system built into the side view mirrors throw an icon onto the mirror whenever there is a car in your blind spot, so you’ll know to stay in your lane, even if you can’t see any danger. The OnStar system lets you immediately notify emergency assistance if you get into trouble while driving. Traction control and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps you keep the wheels under control, even in tough driving conditions, and should an accident occur, front and side impact driver and passenger airbags and side curtain airbags are ready to deploy. For theft protection, there is stolen vehicle tracking, a panic alarm, an engine immobilizer, and an anti-theft alarm system. For child safety, rear child locks are installed.

Driving Experience

You’ll get full control over this commanding vehicle with a powerful, 6.2-liter, V-8 engine linked to a six-speed automatic transmission that delivers 403 horsepower. The All-Wheel Drive (AWD) option lets you take on some of the worst road conditions without a sweat, and you’ll really enjoy the smooth ride facilitated by available Magnetic Ride Control, a suspension system that responds immediately to changing conditions in the road, adjusting almost immediately to provide just the required level of damping. This is a car that thinks a lot faster than you do, and it shows in the smoothness of the ride, even at high speeds and tough conditions.

Fuel economy is a meager 14/18 mpg city/highway, but it is to be expected when you buy a giant Cadillac. That being said, if the gas guzzling is too much to bear, try going for the Hybrid, which offers a much more palatable 20/23 mpg city/highway.
