Since its comeback in 1991, the Cadillac Seville gained a reputation as one of the leading luxury sedans on the market. By far, the best American-made luxury sedan available, the decision to redesign this smaller adaptation of the Cadillac for the 1998 model year was bold. Engineers and stylists were put in a position where they had to fix a car that wasn’t necessarily broken. The task of improving upon an award winning design must have been a challenge, but the 1998 redesign was a huge success. The redesigned Seville is lavish, loaded with technological treats and a world-class performer. Buyers of the redesigned Seville have praised the improvements made to its suspension and overall drivability. Additionally, the redesign made the Seville STS, now offering 300 horsepower, the most powerful front drive available.

The 1999 Cadillac Seville follows a complete redesign from the year before and only has some minor modifications. Three new exterior paint colors are available: Sterling Silver, Parisian Blue, and Cashmere. A new Oatmeal interior shade is also available. New massaging lumbar seats and heated seats are now included as part of the adaptive seating package available for both the SLS and STS.
Cosmetically, the redesigned fifth-generation Seville looks dramatically different than the fourth generation. The car now has a much more aggressive appearance with a wider stance and lower hood. Softer edges have given the car more of a contemporary look.
The 1999 Cadillac Seville’s wheelbase was extended to 112 inches with the recent redesign. Standard tire size is 16 inches. The length of the vehicle was shortened slightly to 201 inches. The newly-designed Seville is built on the K-body platform. The Seville has rack and pinion steering with full independent suspension.
The 1999 Cadillac Seville’s interior has leather seats, a glossy faux wood trim, and an ergonomically functional control panel with illuminated analog gauges. Interior storage is abundant with an accommodating glove box, armrest console, and an umbrella tray located beneath the front seat. The built-in seat belts are much more comfortable than the more common center pillar mounted seat belts.
The 1999 Cadillac Seville has adaptive seating package that is optional for the SLS and STS. The adaptive seating functions through a network of inflatable air cells built into the seat cushion, seatback, and side bolsters. The system detects the amount of pressure in these regions and adjusts the levels of cell inflation to optimize comfort and support.
The 1999 Cadillac Seville comes standard with cruise control, tilt steering, air-conditioning, power adjustable driver and passenger front seats, separate driver and front passenger climate controls, and an AM/FM radio with a cassette and CD player.
Performance & Handling
The 1999 Cadillac Seville offers two available dual overhead cam Northstar V-8 engines. The Seville SLS has a 275-horsepower 4.6-liter V-8 engine. The Seville STS has the same V-8 power but packs 25 extra ponies under its hood. Each provides a smooth and quiet ride. Accessories bolted to the engine block lessen vibration and harshness.
The 1999 Cadillac Seville is equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission. The STS trim has Performance Algorithm Shifting (PAS), which isn’t available on the SLS, which is softer sprung and geared more towards comfort than performance. The PAS detects aggressive driving and programs the automatic transmission to behave like a manual gearbox. For example, the transmission can select and hold the appropriate gear while taking a corner to eliminate a balance offsetting up shift through maneuvering.
The 1999 Cadillac Seville comes standard with four-wheel anti-lock brakes, daytime running lights, driver and passenger front airbags, front side airbags, and both stability and traction control. There are no available NHTSA crash test results at this time.
