2011 Cadillac SRX Review

Great looking crossover that needs refinement

Reviewed by Automotive on

In a Nutshell
The 2011 Cadillac SRX is a luxury hatchback crossover that is stylish, trendy vehicle with lots of features and options comprising four trim levels. Powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 engine or a 2.8-liter turbocharged V-6 engine coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission, the Cadillac SRX features all-wheel drive and 61.1 cubic-feet of cargo space.

With its capable handling, tech features, and luxury amenities, the Cadillac SRX could be a popular crossover, except for its weight and sluggish acceleration. Making up in part is a full array of high-tech safety systems, but with an EPA rating in the 18 mpg city / 25 mpg highway range, there's not much this average performer can do.

New for 2011

Since the Cadillac SRX was completely redesigned for 2010, the only updates for 2011 are a rear vision camera and two new paint colors.

Essentials

Engines: 3.0L V-6, 2.8L turbocharged V-6
Transmission: 6-speed automatic
Bodystyles: Hatchback Crossover
Trims: Base Sport Utility, Luxury Collection Sport Utility, Performance Collection Sport Utility, Premium Collection Sport Utility

On the Outside

A sweeping roof and fin-like taillights give the Cadillac SRX a sporty, aggressive appearance.

From the Inside

The 2011 Cadillac SRX's interior includes standard automatic climate control and a premium stereo, while leather is standard on some trims.

Driving Performance

While the base 265 horsepower 3.0-liter V-6 gets the job done, the premium 300 horsepower 2.8-liter turbocharged V-6 is the higher performer. However, both feel sluggish under the SRX's weight. Although its ride is sporty and compliant, the Cadillac SRX can be upgraded with a sport package that improves handling while sacrificing ride quality.

Safety Equipment

Standard safety features on the Cadillac SRX include front and side airbags, side curtain airbags, anti-roll sensors, electronic traction and ctability control, and OnStar Automatic Crash Response.

Gas Mileage

FWD: 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway
AWD 3.0L: 17 mpg city/23 mpg highway
AWD 2.8L: 15 mpg city/22 mpg highway

Plusses

  • Slick styling
  • Sport handling
  • Capable ride
  • Plenty of features and options
  • Comfy seats

Minuses

  • Heavy weight
  • Sluggish acceleration
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Lack of interior space
  • Pricey with options

Sum Up

Great looking crossover that needs refinement
