1999 Chevrolet Astro Review

A reliable and roomy van ideal for commercial passenger use, commercial cargo use, or for large families.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

The 1999 Chevrolet Astro was built from 1985 through 2005 and is closely-related to the GMC Safari. All models have a three-door van body style with a side-mounted sliding door, and have been wildly popular both for commercial use and as a consumer family minivan. The second-generation models have a front-engine rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive (AWD) layout, with a 4.3-liter, 190-horsepower (hp) V-6. Changes to the exterior were very limited throughout its lifetime. From one generation to another the Astro has always featured a boxy body frame and protruding front-end. The lack of modifications are a testament to the original design of the Chevrolet Astro: it remains popular due to its roomy interior, reliability, and decent power.
