1995 Chevrolet C2500 Review

A serious full-size pickup.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

The 1995 Chevrolet C2500 is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by General Motors. The truck belongs to the C/K Series, which has been in production along with the GMC version of the same series. According to the C/K nomenclature, the C2500 is a quarter-ton truck.

The Range

Body Styles: regular cab, extended cab
Engines:4.3-liter V-6,5.0-liter V-8, 5.7-liter V-8, 7.4-liter V-8
Transmissions: four-speed automatic, five-speed manual
Models: Chevrolet C2500 Cheyenne, Chevrolet C2500 Silverado

What's New

The 1995 Chevrolet C2500 gets a revised interior along with two new safety features: a shift interlock and a driver-side airbag. The shift interlock functions so that the automatic transmission’s gear selector can only be shifted out of ?Park? when the brake pedal is depressed. This reduces the chances of it moving unexpectedly.

The 1995 Chevrolet C2500 also has revised climate controls, power mirrors, a modified automatic gearbox, and revisions to the engines. The two-wheel anti-lock system from the previous year is replaced by a four-wheel ABS this year. The engines underwent various upgrades in order to curb noise and improve its life, reliability, and efficiency. The automatic transmission is revised for faster gearshifts from the first to second gear under full throttle.

Exterior

The 1995 Chevrolet C2500 is a long-bed truck that has a wheelbase of 131.5 inches and a cargo bed with a length of eight feet. The extended cab models are available in two combinations. The first is a body with a wheelbase of 155.5 inches with a cargo bed of eight feet, and the second is a wheelbase of 141.5 inches with a cargo bed of 6.5 feet. The automaker changed the front grille for 1995's release, and the Sportside has flared rear fenders, while the Fleet side has a regular fender.

Interior

The 1995 Chevrolet C2500 offers good visibility for the driver, as well as a wide and spacious cabin. The gauges up front are large and unobstructed, but it can be difficult to read in the sunlight due to excessive glare. The glove compartment is very small compared to the size of the cabin and holds a very limited number of objects.

Performance & Handling

The 1995 Chevrolet C2500's base engine is a 4.3-liter V-6 engine that delivers 165 horsepower. An optional five-liter V-8 engine delivers 175 horsepower and is also available. Other engine options include a 5.7-liter V-8 that delivers 200 horsepower and a 7.4-liter V-8 that delivers 230 horsepower. All engines get a sharp rise in rated power this year. The base V-6 provides a strictly adequate performance with the manual transmission, but it feels quite underpowered with the automatic shift. The 5.0-liter V-8 or the 5.7-liter V-8 are better choices for those looking for a better performance, especially with an automatic shift.

The larger V-8 engines offer better and sportier performance, but it comes with the downside of reduced fuel economy. The biggest engine, a 7.4-liter V-8, offers neck-snapping acceleration with the sports suspension package. Ride quality is good and better than that of the previous generations of the truck. The five-liter V-8 is a smooth and capable engine for most customers, but heavy-duty towing or hauling calls for a livelier 5.7-liter V-8. The 7.4-liter V-8 is for those who want an extra punch.
