1998 Chevrolet C2500 Review

Two-wheel-drive classic pickup performance.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 1998 Chevrolet C2500 is a workhorse, but for some reason, Chevrolet only offers it in a two-wheel-drive transmission. The large choice of engines and options makes this a highly customizable pickup. The pickup is available with either extended or regular sized cabs, which can extend the space in the bed as well. Overall, it is a relatively safe, powerful, and classically-styled pickup.

What's New

The 1998 Chevrolet C2500 adds a theft-deterrent alarm system. Other additions include new color options and air bags in most models. The Sport model has been removed from the lineup this year.

The 1998 Chevrolet C2500 offers plain pickup styling. It comes standard with 16-inch wheels, daytime running lights, and several color options. Buyers can opt for additional features that include a camper mirror, towing package, chrome step bumper, and clearance lights. The C2500 can be purchased in regular cab or extended cab models.

The interior of the 1998 Chevrolet C2500 provides ample legroom, and with regular cab and extended cab options, extra passengers are a plausible option. It comes standard with vinyl seating, but cloth seating is optional. An AM/FM stereo is standard, but options include an AM/FM/Cassette audio system in its place. The list of options is rather long, but a few of them include power locks, air-conditioning, and cruise control.

Performance & Handling

The 1998 Chevrolet C2500 series comes with a range of five engine types, all with plenty of power. Included in these choices are two diesel engines. The 5.0-liter V-8, which is the smallest engine available, provides over 285 ft-lb of torque. Additional engines include a 7.4-liter V-8, 6.5-liter V-8, 6.5-liter V-8, and 5.7-liter V-8. Unfortunately, this large truck series does not come with an option for four-wheel drive. It can tow up to 10,000 pounds with the optional towing kit.

All 1998 Chevrolet C2500s come with standard with a four-wheel anti-lock brake system. Other standard safety equipment includes daytime running lights and passenger and driver's front side airbags. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rated it three out of five stars during frontal passenger crash tests, and the driver's safety gets four out of five stars during the same tests.
