Chevrolet has revived the iconic Camaro nameplate for its all-new 4-seat sports car. The previous generation Camaro was discontinued in 2002, and rather than draw inspiration from that model, the 2010 Camaro harkens back to one of the cornerstones of the muscle car era: the '67-'69 Camaro's.
The base engine for the rear-drive Camaro is a direct-injected 3.6-liter V6, putting out 304 horsepower sent to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The SS model gets GM's 6.2-liter V8 putting out 426 horsepower with the standard 6-speed manual and 400 horsepower with the 6-speed automatic.
Those selecting the automatic with the 6.2-liter, get the fuel saving benefits of Active Fuel Management, which allows the big V8 to run on four of eight cylinders when less power is needed.
Here are the highest and lowest EPA estimates for fuel economy:
The retro theme is continued inside, with an instrument cluster very similar to that of Camaro's of old. However, what the first-gen Camaro's do not have, are Brembo performance brakes, a multi-function steering wheel, OnStar roadside assistance, and electronic traction control that can be manually deactivated.
Base MSRP for the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is $22,680. The SS model starts at $30,745. The Camaro is backed by a 5-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
With classic styling, potent engines, and modern technology, the 2010 Chevy Camaro brings forth the best of old and new!
