The Chevrolet Caprice has been in existence since 1965 and was well-received during its four generations. The first generation lasted until 1970 and featured the Caprice in a variety of styles including the Caprice Estate, a station wagon, and luxury full-size design.
The second generation Caprice was manufactured from 1971 to 1976. In this generation, Chevrolet continued with the station wagon models, as well as the coupe designs but added the Impala to the Caprice line. The second generation offered improved design for noise reduction and an all coil suspension for a smoother ride.
The Caprice underwent another transformation in the third generation lasting from 1977 to 1990. The car's body was downsized and lightened to provide better fuel economy while the trunk and interior seating space was increased. While the sedans and coupes were narrowed, the Caprice station wagon remained virtually unchanged in width, helping to keep it ideal for families.
The fourth generation Chevrolet Caprice rolled onto showroom floors from 1991 to 1996. Chevrolet chose to completely redesign its Caprice line and offered a more streamlined appearance to the car's body design. This generation also offered the anti-lock brakes for the first time on this model, bringing the Caprice up to date on automotive engineering for the time.
