2004 Chevrolet Corvette Review

An amazing, American, high-performance car.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2004 Chevrolet Corvette comes built for speed and has been for over 50 years. This American icon is well-balanced, powerful, and much more affordable than its competition. With its 350-horsepower V-8 it powers down the road. An active handling system helps maintain directional control. The damper design delivers a quieter ride and instills confidence.

The Range

Engines: 5.7-liter V-8
Transmissions: six-speed manual, four-speed automatic

What's New

The 2004 Chevrolet Corvette offers a commemorative edition of all models. It features LeMans Blue exterior paint and a Shale interior with special badging and polished aluminum wheels. A carbon-fiber hood, LeMans stripes, and unique wheels set the Z06 apart.

The Chevrolet Corvette is a two-seat sports car that features the familiar side air scoops, hidden headlights, and quad taillights. As always, it has a fiberglass body on top of a steel frame and rides a 104.5-inch wheelbase with a length of 179.7 inches. Its low profile gives the 2004 Chevrolet Corvette a height of just under 48 inches. The Z06 coupe features functional body-side brake ducting. It also sports wide tires. Since no spare tire comes with the coupe or convertible, fortunately it comes equipped with run-flat tires.

The Chevrolet Corvette hasn't changed from its 1953 roots. Its bucket seats come covered in leather and offer power adjustment for height, lumbar support, and tilt. Leather trim also spices up the steering wheel. Other standard features for the 2004 Chevrolet Corvette include remote power locks, power windows, front reading lights, and illuminated vanity mirrors for both the driver and passenger. Along the way, occupants enjoy air-conditioning and a Bose AM/FM/CD player. A 12-volt power outlet sits up front, along with a cigarette lighter, ashtray, and cup holders. A futuristic head-up display projects speed and other information onto the windshield and comes standard in the Z06 and as an option on other models.

Performance & Handling

The 2004 Chevrolet Corvette provides precise handling, high performance, and pavement-gripping fun. The base coupe and convertible come equipped with the 350-horsepower, LS1, 5.7-liter V-8, which turns out 375 lb-ft of torque with the optional six-speed manual transmission. Stick with the standard four-speed automatic transmission for 360 lb-ft of torque.

The 2004 Chevrolet Corvette comes equipped with a four-wheel anti-lock braking system, daytime running lights, electronic stability control, traction control, and airbags. Anti-theft features and tire pressure monitoring also come standard.
