What's New

The ever-evolving Chevrolet Corvette entered the 2006 model year with several noteworthy upgrades keeping it on the top of its class. A new trim package dubbed the Z06 was added offering an increased level of horsepower generated by a quality 7.0-liter V-8 engine. A new six-speed transmission was also integrated with an improved three-spoke steering wheel that was smaller in diameter when compared to its predecessor. Inside the cabin, it experienced several other upgrades ranging from the premium Bose sound system to the modern front passenger airbags that boasted the latest automatic passenger detecting sensor. Whether the focus was on the exterior, the posh interior, or under the hood, buyers are destined to notice the 2006 latest and greatest features.

Exterior

The 2006 Chevrolet Corvette exterior is not a stranger to change since its original conception in 1953. The first generation cascaded forward and adapted sleek lines and a sporty design that is recognized today as a leader in the industry. It was offered in both a coupe and convertible form in a variety of color palettes ranging from Artic White to Velocity Yellow Tincoat to LeMans Blue Metallic. The lightweight Z06 floats effortlessly on an aluminum frame with wider wheels for handling. The coupe is offered with a standard removable roof panel or optional transparent roof panel along with xenon headlamps and blank.

Interior

For past decades, many have argued that the Corvette lagged behind the competition in one aspect, the interior. Whether buyers choose to stand behind one side of the discussion or the other, it is impossible to ignore the upgrades made throughout the 2006 cabin. The sporty soul of the Corvette shines through the interior in both the coupe and the convertible body styles. Both models are equipped with leather seating available in Cashmere, Ebony, Red and Grey color options. The driver-seat memory, top-of-the-line sound system from Bose, and climate control keep the vehicle in the luxury class. From the standard improved dash to the optional DVD navigation and seven-speaker stereo system, it is building momentum towards interior luxury status.

Performance & Handling

The 2006 Chevrolet Corvette's speed and performance is shown through the 6.0-liter, V-8 engine that generates both 400 horsepower and lb-ft of torque. The upscale Z06 model jumps to a respectable 505 horsepower with 470 lb-ft of torque through the 7.0-liter, V-8 engine. Standard six-speed transmission is found on the base and Z06 along with traction and stability control. With an option of three suspension options, drivers are certain to reach a level of comfort while behind the wheel. At the end of the day, the performance is on par with other sports cars in the category while it continues to build momentum and thrive as a fierce high-end machine.

Safety

The 2006 Chevrolet Corvette delivers an advanced safety system that includes the Active Handling System or the AHS, which senses any loss of control and aggressively works to keep the car stable. Standard on the both the coupe and convertible, drivers will find anti-lock disc brakes in addition to daytime running lights and dusk sensing headlamps. Lacking are the head curtain airbags, but they do have the option to add side-impact varieties.
