Chevrolet has redesigned its Equinox mid-size crossover SUV for 2010. While the 5-pazssenger Equinox still rides on the same platform as the previous model, the body has been completely restyled, with crisper lines and a cleaner overall design.
Trims for the Equinox are LS, 1LT, 2LT, and LTZ. While base equipment includes 17-inch painted aluminum wheels and 4-wheel independent suspension, our LTZ test model came equipped with halogen fog lights, 18-inch machined aluminum wheels, and a power-closing tailgate.
Power for the Equinox comes from a 2.4-liter inline-4 cylinder engine that generates 182 horsepower and 172 pound feet of torque. A 3-liter V6 is also available. It puts out 264 horsepower and 222 pound feet of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels or available all wheel drive through a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Fuel economy for the Equinox ranges from 17 miles per gallon city, up to 32 miles per gallon highway.
The redesigned interior of the Equinox has a more flowing design, and is more in line with current GM cabin design trends. Our test model came with standard features such as tilt telescoping multifunction steering wheel, navigation system with traffic updates, and a pioneer 250-watt 8-speaker sound system.
Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, hill-start assist, StabiliTrak electronic stability control system, traction control system, tire pressure monitoring system, and a full array of front and side impact air bags.
Base MSRP for the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox is $22,440. The nicely equipped 2LT trim starts at $25,445. A range-topping LTZ trim with all wheel drive starts at $29,795. The Equinox is backed by a 5-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
With an updated design, versatile features, and choice of engines highlighting fuel efficiency, the 2010 Chevy Equinox has the tools to compete in the increasingly crowded crossover SUV market.
