The Chevrolet K2500 is a three-quarter ton, heavy-duty pickup truck that the brand introduced in 1988. After the 1998 model year, it was replaced by the Silverado.

About the Chevrolet K2500

The Chevrolet K2500 (known as the Silverado K2500 since 1999) is known for its ability to handle workday hauling and towing tasks, as well as towing recreational vehicles and boats during vacations or hauling DIY supplies for a weekend job at home.

Available in regular cab, extended cab, or crew cab, the Silverado K2500 comfortably seated as many as six passengers. There are three cargo beds to choose from: short box, regular box, and long box styles. They can handle the heavy-duty hauling needs of construction workers, homeowners, or farmers encounter.

This truck can safely tow a 5000-pound trailer with a 600 pound tongue weight; HD models offer a higher towing capacity. The Camper/Towing package will help you arrive safely at your destination. Determine the approximate weight of passengers, installed optional equipment, and cargo to figure out how much weight your truck can tow.

In addition to cab (regular, extended, or crew) and box (short, standard, or long),and options, the Silverado, HD Silverado, Cheyenne, and HD Cheyenne packages offer a range of options to satisfy your towing and hauling needs.

Chevrolet K2500 Features

The Silverado model came equipped with a 5.0-liter, fuel-injected V-8 engine and a five-speed manual transmission. A 6.5-liter Turbodiesel V-8 engine is also available, as is a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) option. An additional 5.7-liter V-8 engine was available as well.

Included in the standard equipment are power steering, power brakes, power windows and door locks, four-wheel ABS, chrome step bumper, 16-inch wheels, driver and passenger front airbags, front cloth bench seat, cruise control, tilt steering wheel with leather trim, air-conditioning, power mirrors, intermittent wipers, daytime running lights, and AM/FM/Cassette audio system.

Optional equipment on the Silverado included bucket seats, camper mirrors, Camper/Towing package, clearance lights, keyless entry, locking differential that enables drivers to switch from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive,front split-bench seat, leather seating, bed liner, sliding rear window, and either an AM/FM/CD or an AM/FM/Cassette/CD audio system.

The HD Silverado came equipped with a 5.7-liter V-8 engine and a five-speed manual transmission; optional engine selections included a 6.5-liter, turbodiesel V-8 or a 7.4-liter V-8 engine, in addition to a four-speed automatic transmission option. A CNG option was also available. Standard equipment included power steering, power brakes, 16-inch wheels, four-wheel ABS, cloth front bench seat, cruise control, tilt steering wheel with leather trim, air-conditioning, intermittent wipers, power windows and door locks, daytime running lights, power mirrors, and AM/FM/Cassette audio system.

Optional on the HD Silverado were bucket seats, leather seating, camper mirrors, Camper/Towing package, clearance lights, keyless entry, locking differential, front split-bench leather seat, AM/FM/CD or AM/FM/Cassette/CD audio system, bed liner, and sliding rear window.

The Cheyenne trim level of the K2500 housed a 5.7-liter V-8 engine and a five-speed manual transmission; optional engine selections included a 6.5-liter, turbodiesel V-8 engine or a 7.4-liter V-8 engine, and a four-speed automatic transmission. A CNG option is available. Additionally, a 5.7-liter V-8 engine was available as an option.

Chevrolet K2500 Evolution

From 1989 to 1993, Chevrolet offered Base, Scottsdale, and Silverado trim levels. The Base trim level was discontinued in 1994. Additionally, this model has a restyled front end and offers a turbodiesel engine. Rust corrosion protection is enhanced, and it provides "easy entry" to the front passenger seat of extended cab trucks.

In 1995, Chevrolet introduced a revised interior and made four-wheel ABS standard. Shift interlock is also added as a safety measure.

The following year, a 4.3-liter V-6 Votec engine was introduced, along with a 5.0-liter V-8 and a 5.7-liter V-8.

The 1997 model offered an alternative fuel version of the Vortec 5700 engine (on the Silverado). HD Silverado and HD Cheyenne trim levels were also added for this model year. Then, at the end of 1998, Chevrolet discontinued the K2500 in favor of the Silverado.
