2013 Chevrolet Volt Review

Reviewed by Automotive on

Vehicle Overview

The 2013 Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid is currently in its second model year, offering an extended all-electric driving range and peace of mind knowing there is a gas tank packed away. The electric car's 40-ish mile range is supplemented by a gasoline-powered engine that kicks on when the battery's depleted. Together with the electric motor and 1.4-liter four-cylinder, the Chevrolet Volt achieves 95/93 mpg city/highway, and delivers 149 horsepower. It offers a 380 mile range, with good steering and a decent ride.

Although the inside is comfortable, it doesn't stand up to other models produced by Chevrolet. Inside you will find touch-sensitive controls and high-quality materials, but surprisingly the driver seat isn't power-adjustable. Also, the back seat only has room for two, and taller individuals will opt for the front. Rear cargo room leaves much to be desired when the back row seats are left upright, offering only 10.6 cubic feet.

Standard features for the 2013 Chevrolet Volt include automatic headlights, LED running lamps, keyless entry and ignition, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth, OnStar communications, voice-controlled audio functions and smartphone integration, as well as satellite radio, a touchscreen display, and an iPod/USB interface. With the Comfort package, heated front seats and a leather wrapped steering wheel are added, which are standard on the Premium model that also includes leather upholstery and a removable rear seat center armrest. The available Enhanced Safety Package 1 adds on a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The Enhanced Safety Package 2 adds forward collision and lane departure warning systems as well as front parking sensors. Other available options include a seven-speaker Bose audio system and navigation.

New for 2013

The 2013 Chevrolet Volt now offers an improved electric-only range, standard body-color roof and hatch, and driving modes can now be manually selected. Optional features now include forward-collision alert, lane departure warning, as well as GPS-enabled navigation.
