The modern 300 series was introduced in the Spring of 2004 and early 2005. The 2012 300 series comes in six separate trim packages: the 300, 300 Limited, 300 S V-6, 300C, 300 SRT8, and 300C Luxury Series. The 300 base model already boasts a lot of features. The 3.6-liter V-6 engine pumps out 292 horsepower at 6,350 rpm with 260 lb-ft of torque. The transmission has eight speeds and uses the E-shifter system. The console inside the vehicle uses the Uconnect Touch display that allows drivers to control climate, radio, and entertainment features via a touch screen. It even includes an audio jack for portable media devices.
The trim on the base model 300 is also impressive. Although the seats are cloth, they boast eight-way adjustable, four-way lumbar adjust. The 300 Limited adds side curtain front and rear airbags for extra safety, keyless enter and go system, ParkView rear backup camera, and remote start for luxury. Inside trim upgrades to leather seating and adds heat to the mix. The 300S V-6 adds premium speakers to the entertainment system, bucket seats with premium cloth, reactive head restraints, and supplemental front seat mounted airbags.
The 300C includes rain-detecting windshield wipers, steering column and mirror memory, SmartBeam headlamps that adjust brightness automatically according to the light in the area, power adjustable pedals, and a heated and cooled front console cup holder. The engine upgrades to a staggering 5.7-liter V-8 HEMI that produces 363 horsepower with 394 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed transmission replaces the five-speed, reducing fuel consumption. The trim includes leather-trimmed, ventilated seats.
The SRT8 serves as a sport version of the vehicle and contains a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 that shoots out a staggering 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. An instrument panel touchscreen mounted in the front of the vehicle tracks the zero to 60 speed of the car, one-eighth mile and one-quarter mile speeds, and the 60 to zero mph braking performance.

The current 300 models have gone through two generations. The first generation ran from 2005 to 2007. The models range from the basic 300 to the Touring, Limited, 300C, Heritage, and SRT8 versions. As in the current generation, the 300C represents the top-of-the-line; SRT8s are sporty versions; and the Touring, Limited, and Base models offer the greatest value.
The first generation won Motor Trend's "Car of the Year" in 2005 and made Car and Driver’s "Ten Best" list in 2005 and 2006. The second generation was released in 2011 and includes the models mentioned in the 2012 section.
