2001 Chrysler Sebring Review

Variety and luxury for everyone.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

The 2001 Chrysler Sebring marks one of the most flexible mid-price models on the market. One of the Sebring’s most attractive offerings is that it comes available in three different body styles: sedan, convertible, or coupe. Engine performance remains similar among all three Sebring styles.

The 2001 Chrysler Sebring is a very comfortable and style vehicle. Its standard list of amenities is robust, including practically every common accessory as standard equipment on all models. Higher-end Sebring models almost catch up to near-luxury vehicles. In addition, unlike a lot of vehicles on the market, optional equipment on the Sebring remains fairly inexpensive. Even a fully loaded Sebring provides a fairly economic vehicle.

The Range

Body Styles: convertible, coupe, sedan
Engines: 2.4-liter four-cylinder, 2.7-liter four-cylinder, 3.0-liter six-cylinder
Transmissions: four-speed automatic, five-speed manual
Models: Chrysler Sebring LX, Chrysler Sebring LXi, Chrysler Sebring Limited

What's New

The Chrysler Sebring unveils a brand new design in 2001. In addition, Chrysler introduces the sedan body style for this model year.

Exterior

The 2001 Chrysler Sebring comes as a sedan, a two-door coupe, or a two-door convertible. Despite the body differences, the 2001 Chrysler Sebring always measures about 190 inches long, so the body change applies more to aesthetics than functionality. With a graceful, modern design, all three body designs look attractive and help set the Sebring apart from other vehicles on the road. Steel wheels come standard, but chrome wheels are available as an option.

Interior

Inside, the 2001 Chrysler Sebring feels very comfortable. It also includes a good selection of standard amenities. An adjustable driver’s seat, power locks, power windows, power mirrors, cruise control, a front console, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, steering wheel controls, air-conditioning, an AM/FM radio, and a CD player come standard on all Sebring models. The Sebring Limited is more luxurious, offering power leather seats, a CD changer, Infinity premium speakers, a trip computer, leather trim, and electrochromatic mirrors.

Performance & Handling

Overall, the Sebring’s performance and handling are good, regardless of the body style or options chosen. The four-cylinder engines offer good acceleration, but the six-cylinder option gives a very noticeable increase in power. The turning and cornering feel good, as well. Drivers find nothing particularly amazing about how the 2001 Chrysler Sebring handles, but it gets the job done, and that is what its target buyers expect.

Safety

The 2001 Chrysler Sebring includes dual front airbags, electronic brake force distribution, and child safety seat anchors as standard safety equipment. Side curtain airbags, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, and traction control are optionally available.

EPA Fuel Economy

Chrysler Sebring 2.4-liter four-cylinder: 18/25 mpg city/highway
Chrysler Sebring 2.7-liter four-cylinder: 17/25 mpg city/highway
Chrysler Sebring three-liter six-cylinder: 17/25 mpg city/highway
