Average style and performance but fails to impress.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

The 2008 Chrysler Sebring is a midsize car manufactured by multi-national automaker Chrysler Group LLC. The first generation of Sebring was produced from 1995 to 2000. Initially, the company only produced coupe model, and the convertible model was introduced a year later.

The second generation of Sebring, produced from 2001 to 2006, was marked by the introduction of a new four-door sedan model. In 2005, the coupe model was discontinued.

The 2008 Chrysler Sebring is a third generation vehicle in the Sebring lineup. The Sebring convertible held the reputation of being the America’s favorite convertible car for more than a decade. The convertible model was the best-selling model in the U.S. for seven of its 11 years in production.

Models: Chrysler Sebring Sedan LX, Chrysler Sebring Sedan Touring, Chrysler Sebring Sedan Limited, Chrysler Sebring Convertible LX, Chrysler Sebring Convertible Touring, Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited

What's New

New convertible models with soft and hardtops join the Sebring lineup of vehicles in 2008. All versions have a standard in-dash changer and a satellite radio.

Exterior

Based on a wheelbase of 108.9 inches, the sedan measures 190.6 inches long overall, 71.2 inches wide, and stands 59 inches tall. On the other hand, the convertible, which is based on the same wheelbase measures 193.8 inches long overall, 71.5 inches wide, and stands 58.5 inches tall.

The Chrysler Sebring convertible has a striking design. The elegant lines on the exterior bring out an expressive design attribute that has always been a characteristic of Chrysler brand of vehicles. A uniquely-sculptured hood, Chrysler signature grille, fog lamps, and large distinctive headlamps give the 2008 Chrysler Sebring a unique look from the front.

The 2008 Chrysler Sebring Limited model powered with an optional V-6 engine sports a chrome-tipped dual exhaust that gives a hint of its superior performance.

Interior

The interior of Sebring embodies a modern and clean appearance that focuses on detail, quality, and execution. Although ergonomically designed, the interior lacks upscale look since Chrysler uses cheap plastics and materials that below average quality.

The 2008 Chrysler Sebring has a fair list of comfort and convenience features that include air-conditioning, dual vanity mirrors, trunk light, and front reading lights.

Performance & Handling

Powered with a four-cylinder engine, the Sebring presents the best fuel economy in its class. However, the four-cylinder is sluggish in performance and power delivery. The 2.7-liter V-6 and 3.5-liter V-6 in touring mode and Limited model offers best power and performance but at the cost of fuel economy. The ride quality is smooth and comfortable even at high speeds. The handling of the vehicle, especially the sedan model, is average.

Safety

The Sebring comes equipped with good list of safety features. Ventilated front disc/rear drum brakes, electronic brake force distribution, front seatbelt pretensioners, engine immobilizer, four-wheel anti-lock braking system, passenger airbag occupant sensing deactivation, are some of the standard safety features available in all Sebring models. The standard safety features also include front height adjustable headrests, rear integrated headrests, and tire pressure monitor.
