What's New

Main changes to the 2011 Dodge Avenger include updates to the interior upholstery and revamped safety features. Dodge also puts some work into the suspension and steering system, giving it a four-cylinder engine, which is what it needs to perform, while keeping the vehicle firmly on the road. The new model gives the driver a lot more control and stability.

Exterior

The 2011 Dodge Avenger exterior stands proud in its category at 192.6 inches long, 72.8 inches wide, and 58.4 inches tall on a 108.9-inch wheel base. With all seats in place, the 2011 Dodge Avenger boasts of 13.5 cubic feet cargo space.

The 2011 Dodge Avenger comes with 17-inch wheels with all-season tires, a full wheel cover, and a temporary spare tire. The rear window comes with a defogger and a window wiper.

The 2011 Dodge Avengers comes with a remote trunk release, storage in the back of the front seat, power steering, and a tilt steering wheel. Additional interior features include a USB port plus iPod and MP3 jacks.

Performance & Handling

The 2011 Dodge Avenger has a six-speed automatic transmission. All three trims deliver quite efficiently on speed and fuel consumption. The base engine for all three trims is a 2.4-liter with173-hp at 6000 rpm, 166 ft-lb of torque at 4400 rpm, four-inline cylinders, 16 valves, and a double overhead cam (DOHC).

All 2011 Dodge Avenger trims come fitted with the MacPherson strut front suspension, four wheel independent suspension, a front and rear stabilizer bar, and a multi-link rear suspension. All these contribute to greater stability and maneuverability.

Safety

The 2011 Avenger is made for speed, so Dodge considers the potential for high-speed accidents top priority when it comes to safety. There are four major elements that are taken into account: injuries to the occupants in general, head and neck injuries, ribcage injuries, and broken bones.

The injuries often sustained by passengers are taken care of with the front air bags for both of the front occupants, and front airbags for the occupants in the back seats. The side airbags for all occupants protect in case of side impacts. The neck and head injuries are taken care of with an advanced head rest that collapses in the event of an impact.

Injuries sustained from the driver being slammed against the steering wheel are taken care of with a steering column that collapses inwards up to four inches in the event of an impact. It further reduces the impact of the airbag and thus absorbs a lot of the pressure that caused more harm than good in earlier vehicle models. The entire body of the 2011 Dodge Avenger is fitted with a safety cage that provides areas where the vehicle crumples to take away the impact from the passengers.
