Dodge B2500 Origins
The B-series of Dodge vans have been in production since 1971. All vehicles within the series have similar features. Outselling its competitors, Dodge didn’t see any reason to change the popular vehicle that had captured both business and individual customers. Changes were made to the hood, grille, front fenders, and bumpers over the years, mainly to meet federal crash standards.
Prior to the inception of the B-series vans, the A-series Dodge vans were remarkably different. The B-series meant the end of the center windshield pillar and the windshield made of two sheets of plate glass. The B-series introduces two-speed wipers, turn, and backup lights. A windshield defroster was not available in the A-series models. The suspension in the B-series is of independent design and uses coil springs (as opposed to the leaf springs in the A-series). The B-series ushers in a new era of manufacturing as a van that has some of the features and comforts of automobiles.About the Dodge B2500
The Dodge B2500 is known for its one-welded-piece "uniframe" design, making the Dodge lighter and stronger than the competition. Its lower center of gravity also improves handling, which is important when hauling cargo and people. The B2500 (the third generation of Dodge B-series vans) was introduced in 1995 and discontinued in 1998.Dodge B2500 Features
The 1998 Dodge B2500’s exterior was redesigned for the 1998 model year. Dodge vans have been beating their competitors with hauling capability and performance for three decades. Improving on that record is not easy (nor may it be necessary). Dual airbags come standard in 1998 models.
Known as the Ram Van (or Ram Wagon, as a passenger van), the base engine is a 3.9-liter V-6; a V-8 is optional (and recommended). The 5.2-liter V-8 offers 295 lb-ft of torque, providing additional power. A four-speed automatic transmission is standard on all 1998 Dodge B2500 vans. As with all Ram vans, fuel economy is dismal. To make up for the poor fuel economy, the vans come equipped with a 35-gallon gas tank to lessen the number of stops for fuel.
The interior of the 1998 Dodge B2500 has been updated, as well as the front end of the vehicle. The engine has been moved forward a bit and the dash revised, improving overall cabin room. Its height of 79.9 inches, length of 205.2 inches, and width of 79.8 inches ensures that owners have plenty of room for cargo. Power steering, power brakes, a front stabilizer bar, dual side doors, and tinted windows come standard on all trim packages.
A 5.2-liter V-8 comes standard in the Ram cargo van. A four-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel ABS (or an optional four-wheel ABS) makes sure that you and your cargo get where you need to go. All cargo vans feature vinyl bucket seats, a tilt steering wheel, power steering, intermittent windshield wipers, and an AM/FM stereo. Driver and passenger front airbags are also standard equipment. Sixteen-inch wheels come standard.
If you need more power, a 5.9-liter V-8 is available. Interior options include power door locks and windows, cruise control, air-conditioning, power exterior mirrors, and an AM/FM/Cassette or AM/FM/CD audio system (with Infinity audio). If you’re hauling items that are sensitive to cold temperatures, you can order a rear heater to keep the cargo area warm.
A camper/towing package allows the Ram Van or Ram Wagon to take to the open road for vacations and haul people and cargo, as well as a trailer or boat. The Dodge 2500 Maxi Cargo Van provides 231 inches of space, letting you haul longer items more easily.
The Ram Wagon offers all of the features of the Ram Van. When your cargo is of the human variety, you want to be sure that passengers have ample seating and legroom. The Ram Wagon offers seating for eight to fifteen passengers. Fifteen-inch wheels come standard on the Ram Wagon, and chrome wheels are optional.
An anti-theft alarm system, power driver’s seat, cruise control, power windows and door locks, as well as power exterior mirrors are all options on the Ram Wagon. As a comfort to passengers, optional front and rear air-conditioning is available, as is sunscreen glass. The model also offers a rear heater option. In addition, the B2500 SLT Ram Wagon offers cup holders, seat back map holders, and cloth trim.
