As Dodge's flagship sedan, The 2010 Charger can play the role of a classic family hauler, or a high performance 4-door. With spacious seating for 5, and available HEMI V8 power, the Charger can be equipped to get you over to the corner store, or down the quarter mile.
Trims for the Charger are Base SE, SXT, R/T, and the high-powered SRT8 model like the one we drove. The Charger has an aggressive appearance, with angular headlights and bulging fenders. The performance-oriented SRT8 model takes these design cues to the extreme, with a lower front valence, body-colored spoiler, 20-inch wheels, and a hood scoop feeding air into the most powerful engine in the Charger family.
The Base Charger is powered by a 2.7-liter V6 generating 178 horsepower and 190 pound feet of torque, sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission. The SXT model comes equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 putting out 250 horsepower and 250 pound feet of torque sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic, or all wheel drive via a 5-speed automatic.
The muscular R/T trim is fitted with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8, generating 368 horsepower and 395 pound feet of torque sent to the rear wheels or all wheel drive through a 5-speed automatic, while the top-end SRT8 model boasts a 6.1-liter HEMI V8 cranking out 425 horsepower and 420 pound feet of torque, sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed automatic.
Here are the highest and lowest EPA estimates for fuel economy:
Our SRT8 test model came equipped with standard leather seating with "SRT" badging sewn into the seatbacks and a trip computer that featured performance readouts for acceleration, braking, and lateral G's. An available upgrade selected on this test model is the SRT options package that includes a 6-disc CD sound system with 200-watt Kicker subwoofer, navigation system, and Uconnect hands free communication system.
Standard safety features include 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, front and side airbags, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
Base MSRP for the 2010 Dodge Charger is $24,390. An R/T model will start at $31,370, while a range-topping SRT8 model will start at $38,180. The Charger is backed by a 5-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
With four doors and a spacious interior, the Charger easily fills the bill of family sedan. With aggressive styling, and available performance packages to back it up, the 2010 Charger also delivers genuine muscle car excitement. Either way, the Charger has what you need for the daily commute, or the weekend rally.
