Dodge enters the competitive mid-size cross over market place with an all new vehicle based on its Avenger sedan platform and designed to lure buyers who want the convenience and functionality of a mini van wrapped in a more contemporary package.
The SUV comes in 3 trim levels; the SE, an up rated SXT and the top of the line R/T. All display an unmistakable Dodge family resemblance highlighted by the "cross-hair" chrome front grille and flowing rearward to the upswept lift gate with integral spoiler.
Sculpted fender flares are home to standard 16-inch wheels on the base SE or optional 19-inch chrome-clad cast aluminum wheels on the SXT and R/T models.
There are two engine choices: a 2.4 Liter Four that produces 173 horsepower and a 3.5 Liter V6 that delivers 235 horsepower and is available in both the upper trim levels. There are two transmissions available; a four speed for the in-line 4 and a 6-speed "Auto-Stick" sequential for the V6.
The SE comes only in front-wheel-drive configuration with optional AWD available on the SXT and R/T models.
The Journey relies on four-wheel ABS disc brakes equipped with brake assist, electronic stability, and traction control across its model line-up. And state of the art airbags protect all passengers.
The 4 cylinder engine provides an EPA estimated fuel economy of 19 City / 25 Highway while the V6 delivers 16 City / 23 Highway.
All models provide seating for 5; with optional third-row seating available on the upper trim levels that boosts the seating capacity to 7. The fold-flat second and split-folding third row seats provide for maximum flexibility.
Functionality dominates interior design with multiple storage cubbies tucked away under seats and beneath the rear compartment floors. Leather seating surfaces are available and the list of electronic communications and entertainment features tops out with the Multimedia system that includes DVD, high-end audio, a 30-gigabyte internal hard drive and Navigation system.
Protected by 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty, the MSRP for the base SE Journey is $19,360 but be prepared to spend as much as $ 35,000 if you opt for the fully loader version of the all new mid-size crossover SUV from Dodge.
