Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2013 Dodge Journey is a four-door crossover that has a structure similar to a car. It is available in SE, STX, Crew, and R/T models. This diverse offering grants buyers the opportunity to choose from a variety of different options based on the number of luxuries desired and the amount of cash they are willing to spend. What makes it standout especially is its interior, which is above par with its competition. It offers the latest and greatest technology and provides supreme comfort. The Journey is a good vehicle for families, since it is reliable, it can seat up to seven passengers, and it offers a stylish and smooth ride.

New For 2013

While there are not many new features for the 2013 Dodge Journey, there are a few:

  • 17-inch wheels now come standard
  • Crew models come standard with premium leather, heated seats, and a heated steering wheel
  • The R/T model gets a performance suspension

Exterior

All models of the 2013 Dodge Journey have approximately a 192-inch length, 72-inch width, 70-inch height, and 114-inch wheelbase. Its large size and aggressive stance gives it a commanding presence on the road. It has a stylish design, which is accented by chrome details and 17-inch wheels. R/T models are upgraded with19-inch aluminum wheels.

The exterior features of the Journey compare closely with its competitors. It does have special lower bumper styling, flared fenders, and a crosshair grille. Optional roof rails and a power sunroof make it more snazzy looking. Otherwise, it has many of the similar traits of other crossovers, such as a tall stance and long build.

Interior & Cargo

The interior of the 2013 Dodge Journey can accommodate between five and seven passengers, depending on the model. In the front, there are cloth low-back bucket seats with cloth upholstery. Leather seating is optional. The second row has a 40/60 split bench seat. Some models also have a third row fitted with a 40/60 split bench seat. The seating is cozy and there is plenty of room for all passengers.

The standard features in the interior of the Journey are up to par with its competitors. There are some features, though, that make it stand out. The optional Uconnect touchscreen system has an interface that includes functions for audio and air conditioning. In addition, a navigation system may be integrated into the dash. This system is both sophisticated and nice to look at. It also has dual zone air conditioning, keyless entry, auxiliary power outlets, and connections for USB compatible devices. These features are good for on-the-go folks and families alike.

Safety

The 2013 Dodge Journey is equipped with anti-lock disc brakes on all four wheels and an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system for better handling. There are seven airbags in total. People in the front seat get protection via front and side-impact airbags, while rear passengers depend solely on side curtain airbags. There are also overhead and knee airbags, which provide protection for the lower extremities and during a rollover. Anti-whiplash head restraints are on board to react to forces during rear collisions. For increased safety, seatbelts are built with pretensioners to help restrain passengers in the event of an accident. Optional features include rear parking sensors and a backup camera. The NHTSA gives it excellent crash test ratings, especially for side-impact crashes.

Driving Experience

The 2013 Dodge Journey is offered with either a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 173 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque or an incredible 3.6-liter, V-6 engine that cranks out 283 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. This is probably one of the finest engines ever produced by Dodge. It provides smooth and quite powerful acceleration. The four-cylinder engine is teamed with a four-speed automatic transmission, while the V-6 engine is combined with a six-speed automatic transmission. Both engines run on regular gas. Maximum towing capacity is 1000 pounds for four-cylinder models, while the V-6 can tow up to 2500 pounds.

The 2013 Dodge Journey is extremely comfortable and maneuverable. The V-6 model has plenty of power and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) helps keep it firmly glued to the road. This setup provides a very smooth and stable ride. It has crisp handling, boasting the ability to maneuver gracefully in traffic and take sharp corners with ease. Four-wheel drive models are capable of travelling over any road conditions effortlessly.
