More on the Dodge Journey
Dodge Journey Origins

Dodge designed the Journey to appeal to families looking for a functional yet attractive vehicle. With flashy wheels, a truck-like grille, and a muscular body based on the Dodge Avenger sedan, the Journey is more stylish than most minivans. All models offer standard seating for five people and available seating for seven.

Early Journey models come in three trims and with two engine choices. The base engine is a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder, with an option for a 3.5-liter V-6. By 2012, Dodge expanded trims to include five levels and upgraded the 3.5-liter, 235 horsepower V-6 to a 3.6-liter, 283 hp model. Base models come standard with a front-wheel-drive system, and all-wheel drive can be added to certain trim levels.

Standard features on the well-appointed base trim include a touch-screen information center, dual-zone automatic climate control, and keyless entry. Upgrading to various trim levels adds features such as leather upholstery and trim, an entertainment center, and reclining rear seats.

About the Dodge Journey

The Dodge Journey is best known as a family-friendly crossover with a spacious interior and a long list of available options.

Available upgrades targeted toward parents include a third-row seat, built-in booster seats, and a back-seat DVD entertainment system. With features such as storage bins, folding and sliding seats, and a folded-seat trunk capacity of 68 cubic feet, the Journey is also ideal for transporting everything from groceries to camping gear.

Standard conveniences include a touch screen and reclining seats. Notable upgrades include leather seating, chrome trim, rear air-conditioning, and a sunroof.

Similar family-oriented midsize SUVs include the Honda CR-V and the Chevrolet Equinox.

Dodge Journey Features

The 2012 Dodge Journey comes in five trim levels: the American Value Package (AVP), SE, SXT, Crew, and R/T.

Base AVP and SE models contain a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine producing 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque. The SXT, Crew, and R/T trims feature the more powerful 3.6-liter V-6 engine, which releases 283 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque. Four-cylinder engines are paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, while V-6 engines match a six-speed automatic gearbox. Front-wheel drive comes standard on all models; however, the SXT, Crew, and R/T can be upgraded to an all-wheel-drive system.

Standard equipment on the Journey AVP includes 16-inch steel wheels, all-season tires, a roof rack, privacy glass, cloth seats, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel with audio and cruise controls, a split-folding rear seatback, reclining rear seats, power-heated mirrors, power door locks, dual-zone climate control, an air filtration system, USB and iPod connections, a 4.3-inch touch-screen interface display, and a six-speaker sound system with CD player and MP3 playback. Front and rear consoles offer storage space and cup holders.

Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes, child seat anchors, head airbags for each row, dual front side-mounted airbags, a center three-point seat belt, front seat belt pretensioners, stability and traction control, a post-collision notification system, driver and passenger whiplash protection systems, and tire pressure monitoring.

Upgrading to the Journey SE adds LED taillights, deep-tint privacy glass, and black roof rails. The Journey SXT tacks on 17-inch aluminum wheels, premium tires, a touring suspension, a distinctive front and rear fascia, dual chrome-tipped exhaust pipes, fog lamps, and body-color exterior mirrors. The Journey Crew includes 19-inch satin silver-painted wheels, bright roof rails, bright door handles, automatic temperature control, a front-passenger flat-fold seat, a premium 368-watt audio system, optional three-zone climate control, and interior LED lights. The Journey R/T adds 19-inch carbon-painted aluminum wheels; black leather-trimmed seats with red stitching; and body-color mirrors, door handles, and grille.

Stand-alone options include second-row child booster seats, a rear-seat entertainment center, a sunroof, heated front seats, a block heater, and unique exterior paint. The Trailer Tow Group package adds a heavy-duty engine cooling system and towing preparation. The Driver Convenience Group adds rear parking sensors and a garage-door opener.
